Registered St. Bede parish children, who attend M-F public school, and their parents do not homeschool their faith formation.
Registered St. Bede parish children who attend a M-F homeschool and their parents choose to homeschool their faith formation, they must use an approved Diocese of Richmond Faith Formation curriculum, and are asked to let the Parish CFF Coordinator know what program they are using.
*Children who receive their faith formation from Walsingham Academy or Our Lady of Mount Caramel Catholic School are not required to attend the weekly parish Faith Formation but are always encouraged and welcome to participate.
All parish children are required to receive Sacramental Preparation within the parish!Sunday morning Children's Faith Formation meets from September-April, 9:30am-10:45am, between the morning Masses.
We ask that all parents/guardians use the "car-line drop-off" on Sunday mornings, which opens at 9:15 am, through the small Southside parking lot, to the right side of the church. Follow the signage and the direction from our car line volunteers.
Pick-up of the children is at 10:45am, from the Kaplan Parish Hall. We close with announcements and prayer with the parents/guardians. Each child is signed out through the child's catechist. This is for the safety of all the children.
All Kindergarten - 5th-grade children are escorted down to the ministry level, where they go to their color-coded grade level room. Their catechists will meet them in the classroom.
All 6-8th graders in Middle School Youth Ministry will go in Kaplan Parish Hall, check-in, and meet their CORE team leader.
Sunday morning CFF is where the children come together by grade level to grow closer to Jesus. They learn about the many wonderful aspects of our Catholic faith: to include the Most Holy Mass, our Liturgical Year, the Word of God in the Holy Bible while participating in fun class activities. Sunday morning CFF is facilitated by catechists to include: adult parishioners, William and Mary students, and high school teen leaders.
"Jesus formed his disciples by making known to them the various dimensions of the Kingdom of God. He entrusted to them 'the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 13:11); he taught them how to pray (Lk. 11:2); he opened his 'meek and humble heart' to them (Mt. 11:29). The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve the same objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ."
- National Directory of Catechesis, 59.
Congratulations to all of the parish children who received their Sacrament of First Holy Communion!
Thank you to all of the families who walked alongside their child(ren) starting in September, to help prepare them to receive their Sacraments and grow in their faith!
**This Sacramental Preparation catechesis is offered at the beginning of each school year! We will offer registration again in July/August 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Please watch for the "Faith Formation" registration banner on the main page of the website! We will also have a banner in the church commons with a QR code and a banner on the drive into church....to remind all families to register!
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a Montessori-based method of introducing young children to the love and protection of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd. The hands-on, age-appropriate learning techniques, or works, are developed from the eyes of a child, so children can encounter Jesus in a personal way.
Saint Bede has a Level I Atrium (3-6 year old's) that supports our Children's Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation programs.
If you choose to homeschool your child for their weekly faith formation, please contact our Children's Faith Formation office, so we may have an accurate record of all children in Saint Bede parish who are receiving faith formation.
If your child has been baptized, is at least 7 years of age, and is ready to prepare to receive their First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion, please visit our Sacramental Preparation Program page for more information about the Parish program.
The foundation of our Children's Faith Formation Program cannot happen without the stewardship gifts of time and talent so generously shared by our catechetical and formation team members. If you would like more information about offering your time and talents to our program, please contact Rita Hipple and we will get you involved..
